Continuing the theme of the design of the water area organisation, it is necessary to mention such reception, as a formal reservoir. The name speaks for itself: it is a reservoir with the quiet water, having correct geometrical contours: round, square, more rare oval or rectangular (with bay windows in end faces). The easier the form and more attractive the decorative materials are, all construction will look especially stylish finally. An important point – unlike natural, the formal reservoir should not be big. Its form should be seen by a sight at once, all entirely. From this the image only wins. There is no importance, what material is applied for siding, it needs to be picked up carefully in order to correspond the general style, to be in an easy contrast with other materials of surrounding space.
This method, as well as many others, has many modifications. The most widespread is the raised formal reservoir. The bowl of such water area is partially deepened and partially raised over the horizon surface and the size requirements are the same, as well as in the previous case. Here are two secrets which need to be considered. The height of the raised part should not be too high, it is better not more than 30cm, maximum 40 cm. Otherwise such essential moment of decorative effect of water surface, as reflexion will be absolutely lost. The above over the earth the water mirror is, the smaller quantity of attractive surrounding objects, and first of all plants, will get under reflexion if to observe the water surface from the height of human growth. And the second secret: the decoration of the raised part should be executed irreproachably and from materials corresponding to the general style. It doesn’t matter what it will be: stone, tree or modern materials (plastic, metal, landscape glass). The main thing is to sustain the style. In such a reservoir It is possible to keep water plants or decorative fishes or it is possible to organise a fountain. The raised formal reservoir is a very attractive method which can wonderfully be enter in the image of many modern manors.
One more effective modification is a couple of identical modules at different height, the so called different level formal reservoir. All the conditions mentioned above are fair for this method too: the accurate geometrical form, the small sizes and carefully picked up decorative material. Such a difficult «aqua land» can be organized as falls, that is from one form, the thin veil of water flows down in a lower located level, and there can be as many levels as you want. It is obvious if there are more than two levels, such construction will look more effective on the expressed relief, terrace slope, but: there should be a good review. It is impossible to admit, that such a difficult “creative” construction, will be clamped from different directions by structures and big plants. In general, the deep air prospect is important for any formal reservoir. They should be freely surveyed either the whole perimetre, or the half.
One more variant: The formal reservoir can be raised only in one part of the perimetre. Besides the most reasonable is to organise such construction on a relief site. One part is made out at the level of horizon and gradually flows to the raised part. Beautifully decorated boards of such reservoir become not only its ornament, but also a place for group sit-round gathering, for example, during parties.

To arrange a fountain is not so simple, though mostly all powerful pumps are completed with nozzles for various variants of fountains. And very few people manage to resist against possibility to arrange it, even if there is no reservoir suitable for this purpose. Therefore we can very often observe, how the water stream beats almost in a flank in the middle of a kitchen garden. Such surroundings will not only decorate the garden, but completely discredits the taste of its owners. As it was already mentioned, an ideal place for a fountain is a formal reservoir. The form and capacity of a fountain – rising and sprayed water “geyser” – will also define the style of decoration.
As a rule the plants are not landed in a fountain but it is not an axiom. The small amount of rightly picked up, graceful water plants can decorate both the fountain bowl, and board lateral side. The intrigue is that the fountain has a lot of years, it is started and slightly overgrown. If such a legend will be properly played it can create a very romantic image.

It is not necessary to dismiss such simple, but rather attractive method as tiny «water garden», and better to say – pond in a cup. It is good that the image of water elements is possible to arrange in the conditions that at first sight absolutely do not suit for this, for example, on a balcony, at the office or in the smallest garden. For this purpose any decorative container will suit. It is better, that its sizes won’t be too small. For example, the height of 30-40 cm and the diameter 50-60 cm. Such bowl will be steady, and it is possible to lodge some water plants in it: a tiny water-lily, a bush of rush or floating relic ferns – salvinia and azolla. Such water area can become a summer residence for your personal goldfish.
The tiny garden of water is a module which is possible to be move, and its exposition can be easily changed. But do not forget that the health of water and its inhabitants will depend on many factors, and first of all from illumination. On an open place in a heat water will overheat and can blossom. In strongly shaded place the water-lily will not blossom. It is necessary to take care of where to move the inhabitants of the mini reservoir during the winter period. To fry a goldfish is a sin and where it to hold in the winter? And the plants need to be attached somewhere till next spring…
Conclusion: lighting up with any, even the most attractive, idea it is necessary to think in advance not only from what and how to make a reservoir how to decorate and co-ordinate with the surrounding space, but also what efforts it will demanded from you in order to take care of it.

If the garden is big, and there are large structures, high old trees and the magnificent, strongly expanded bushes in it and the relief is expressed strongly enough, it is possible to arrange such variant of a stream, as the cascade. The big difference of height, a large fragmentary stones in decoration and the powerful pump will allow to create the cascade – falls. But it is necessary to understand that the noise of such stream will be rather essential component of the image. And not only in the daytime, but also at night. Though looking beautifully and attractively, such construction, won’t suit for a small garden. Try to understand it at the designing stage, besides the cascade falls is not a cheap pleasure. To dismantle and alter it after you will get tired of persuasive noise, will be rather unpleasant.
As it was already told, the falls height, quantity of rifts and total length of such cascade, will be defined by the features of your site. I used to see high enough falls issued by brutal huge blocks which were settled on the flat space in the middle of the site. Even worse when the water stream is overthrown from a fence or the house wall. Your decision, if we are talking about the “natural” falls, should be motivated by the image of a surrounding landscape.
However the cascade, can have different modifications if the manor is made in the genre of any classical architectural style, and if there are a lot of stones and in paved surfaces in its decoration, the cascade should be regular. This image originates from cascades in the Italian palaces which were erected on slopes, therefore its structure and a decor should be similar to the corresponding style. Unlike the natural falls the architectural cascade is symmetric, all its links are identical and are settle down with a uniform rhythm on the whole length. Here the trump is not in naturalness, but in contrary, – in the demonstration of pathos design, selection of an effective decorative material corresponding to an overall picture. Most likely, such construction will not enter in the manor built in style of «a small house in the village». Though if to observe all the proportions and to use the fragments of wooden barrels or ceramic flat dishes, it is going to be a quite nice author’s cascade under the motto «greetings from Thuringia» Why not?

There are numerous species of aconite, which belongs to the buttercup family. They are all poisonous, the roots bearing some resemblance to horseradish. The common monkshood is Aconitum Napellus, a British native which favours shade near water. Besides the blues, there are several varieties bearing pale yellow flowers, like lycoctonum, which
is the wolfsbane, anthora and pyrenaicum, all summer bloomers. The winter aconite (Eranthis) does well in shade, and is often grown under trees, its clear yellow cups on their green Toby frills appearing in January.
Aconite root has been mistaken for horseradish, with fatal consequences.
Horseradish is a pale yellowish color outside, whitish inside; aconite out is a dark brown color outside, whitish inside. Horseradish is cylindrical in shape, aconite conical. In medicine aconite is a powerful poison, sometimes prescribed to slow the action of the heart. The symptoms of poisoning are severe vomiting, an icy wet skin, complete prostration, accompanied by a very slow, often irregular pulse.

However the pond of natural outlines is not the only natural variant of the reservoir decoration. Those who like the movement and gentle murmur of streaming water, possibly, will be interested in the idea of creation of a stream. Sliding in the shades of hanging down to the earth branches of spireas, smoothly coiling, ringing snake of water will bring the incomparable charm in any lonely corner of a garden. On the bank of such streamlet it is possible to place a collection of rhododendrons, ferns and primroses. The air full of moisture is the ideal environment for the cultivation of these desired garden favourites. It is not necessary to mention that there can a lot of variants of stream. The main thing is the idea, and it is simple enough: the circle of water which moves by the pump through the hose from the bottom tank in a certain top point of a channel – a source, from which it runs down again to the bottom tank. And what finally becomes this water stream will depend on the length, width and depth of the channel, quantity and height of thresholds, materials of dressing and of course on the capacity of the pump and the width of section of a hose. As the pond, the stream is a natural water area, also it is necessary to try to arrange and to issue it as much plausibly as it is possible. Therefore the choice of the stream modification should be defined first of all by the features of your site. It is also possible to create a stream on an absolutely flat relief, but it will look much better on a site that initially has at least a small bias. And it is absolutely unessential to arrange high thresholds (height differences) between different steps of a stream. In a garden of a small size it is enough to arrange only a couple of hardly seen rifts. Exactly not deep and not prompt water stream will create a pleasant rustling sound.
