The English garden is tidy and organized garden grouped in carefully planned geometrical and symmetric lines. Lawns and partitions in an English garden should be accurately cut always. Trees, bushes, semi bushes and other foliage are carefully landed, generated and cut.
The most simple English garden is represented by square cut lines of a green hedge, either carefully fenced flowers or garden beds, in type of a bed’s garden. The most difficult English gardens contain footpaths, sculptures, fountains and multilevel beds.
An English garden has to merge with landscape as much as possible. The lawn comes to the house, and hides in park. The prevailing colour of an English garden is green and its shades: bright garden flowers are landed near to the house. In an English garden the preference is given to the big curtains of field perennials and wood perennials. The paths are twisted, and made of natural material. It’s perfectly, if there are roughnesses of relief and reservoirs.
The characteristics for an English landscape garden are:
• Landscape naturalness, absence of a clear boundary between the garden and surrounding nature.
• Softness of relief lines, plants, paths and reservoirs.
• Contrast of light and shade, special attention to the invoice of crones, leaves.
• Movement in everything – in twisting paths, among waving plants, at natural reservoirs.
• The leading role of strips and groups of trees.
• The absence of ostentation, the prevalence of the ideas of romanticism and sentimentalism.
We all love flowers, they decorate our life, make it more colored and bright. Every day in the world there are bought and given hundreds and thousands of flowers. And all these flowers have been grown up carefully by someone in order to please those to whom they would be given.
They say that there is no a gift better, than the one that is made by hands. If to paraphrase it a little bit, the same can be said about flowers. Imagine that you decorate the house with the flowers that you have grown up. Or present it to the closest people to whom such a gift will be doubly expensive and pleasant.
If you want your garden to be unusually beautiful, you have to plant flowers in it. Flowers garden can please you by blossoming since early spring to the late fall. Already in the end of April daisies, pansies, forget-me-nots, crocuses, hyacinths start blossom. In May narcissuses, in June peonies, carnations and poppies start blossom. In July, iris, lily, hand bell, petunia, delphinium start blossom; and in august – gladiolus, dahlia, rod-rose, and aster. Flowers Garden can be divided on annual and perennial.
Annual flowersgarden
Annual flowers garden don’t concede perennial on the beauty, there are a lot of different kinds of them and they can also blossom since spring till autumn. Annual flowers are very good both for garden decoration, and for bouquets. Annual flowers are: aster, calendula, poppy, etc. To annual plants also carry Perennial flowers which cannot live in northern areas in winter time and are grown up as Annual flowers ( lion’s pharynx, petunia, begonia, etc.). Annual flowers breed seeds. Some kinds of flowers land sprouts.
Perennial flowers garden
Biannual flowers also concern to this group. Very often in time of year of crops biannual flower garden form only the socket of leaves, and flowers and seeds appear only for the second year. Perennial flowers garden easy pass winter colds, and many kinds are presented by very various grades.
Bulbous flowers garden
This group is presented by hyacinth, lily, tulip, narcissus, etc. The underground bodies of these flowers are named bulbs. Such flowers can winter in open-air and grow on the same place for some years. The upper part dies in autumn, and starts to grow again in the spring. Some bulbous flowers during the winter period demand easy shelter at very low temperatures.
Tuber and tuberbulbous garden flowers
This group is presented by dahlias, gladioluses, begonias, etc. Such flowers are widespread. Their difference from other flowers consists in fact that their underground body forms a tuber or tuber bulb. These flowers cannot winter in an open-air. Annually in the autumn tubers are dug out and stored in storehouse, and in spring are land again.
Emotional, psychological and even physical influence of colour on a man’s eye – is an extremely important factor for drawing up a successfully solved colour composition of a garden. Looking at this or that colour the observer can feel the sense of satisfaction like a gourmet with a testy bit in his mouth, or irritation what we feel from a hot dish”. The garden’s colour is defined by set of all elements and objects located in its territory these are materials of fences and external walls of buildings, covering of paths, illumination, water presence, an internal decor of premises and, of course, plants in combination with character of ground cover. Competently grouped garden plants, changing seasonal colouring of foliage and flowering train, will “update” appearance and mood of your garden within all year. In general the colour palette of a garden consists of about 130 shades. The general colour of landscapes doesn’t vary three times a year as many people think, but not less than nine times.
The general reaction of a person on colours and defined on the basis of generalization of some scientific supervision can combine their symbolic to below-mentioned definitions.
Red – the most mobile and live colour, makes sensation of purposeful power; light shades of the red operate excitingly, offensive, dark – is serious, solid. Symbolizes life, blood, love, passion, heat, fire.
Violet – rich, but sad, at the big surface can have a negative effect. Symbolizes advantage, luxury.
Dark blue – silent, self-deepened, concentrated; blue tones operate as clear, pure, virgin. Symbolizes infinity, heavens, grief.
Green – quiet, peace, passive; light green – recovered, cheerful; dark green – cold, constrained. Symbolizes rest, balance, fertility.
White – neutral, operates on a person as great silence. Contrasts with all dark colourings, in motley combinations brings light and revival, increases dimensions. Symbolizes cleanliness, innocence, chastity.
Black – outwardly the most silent colour against which any other colour sounds more strongly and more precisely. Symbolizes mourning, grief, solemnity.
Grey – motionless, silent, hopeless. Symbolizes mechanism, the standard.
Such colour characteristics cannot be accepted as priori, since different nationalities and in different climatic zones of globe have deviations from standard representations. For example “wedding” white colour in some countries is considered mourning. In Vietnam white – is the symbol of treachery, and black – boldness. In countries with a droughty climate green colour is considered “strong”. However researches show that as a whole people equally react on colours. Red, yellow, green and dark blue are focus colours for man. Exactly these colours are preferred by children, before they start to speak, avoiding “the boundary” colours lying between them. The names of focus colours are first that appear in speech. Our perception of colour also changes from character of illumination – natural – day and evening, electric. The human eye is arranged in such a manner that in twilight the majority of colours are badly distinguishable (merge), and objects which look dark blue in the afternoon, will seem brighter than the objects which look red at daylight.
Skillfully operating with colour properties, is possible to achieve many interesting effects in a garden, giving to its each corner a special mood.
About what a beginning gardener thinks, digging in the earth? Basically, about how to land a plant for its normally grow. Later, having learned simple receptions of agricultural technicians, but still sitting in beds, our hero starts to lift his head and to look around. He starts thinking what else interesting he can make in his garden. And here he is standing proudly on top of an Alpine hill. And, surveying chaotic beauties starts to suspect that something is wrong here…
Each garden is small (or not small) isolated world. So has developed that we perceive our garden absolutely separately, from others. And on this precious slice of earth, so lovely enclosed by fence, we have to create something intelligible. A garden has to be beautiful; a garden has to be functional. And if of the beauty of separate elements many of us can take care, to collect all together in a reasonable image, is a problem. Actually all is easy. And the first step – is a choice of structure of the future garden. Why a choice, instead of working out? Simply there are some characteristic types of a lay-out of space. It can concern the entire garden or its separate parts – an internal court yard, a front garden, wood etc. the Majority of gardens are included in this classification, or are intermediate variants.
So, the first type is a garden-room. Small open space with green plantings on perimeter. Plans of such gardens can be meet very often in English books. Is suitable for an internal court yard, for that part of a garden that is behind the house. The flat center usually includes a patio, a small lawn of an accurate form, sometimes a reservoir. A dense tree-bushed mixborder along the edges well protects both from a wind, and from extraneous sights. Quite often it is also raised on a retaining wall. Pergola makes it much more comfortable. At rather small sizes of such garden there is everything that is necessary. There is a place where to have rest, on what to look. Are located both apple-trees, and a pine tree. Keeping the initially set structure, we can easily add other elements – a children’s small house and a barbecue oven, to include in retaining wall’s composition, any flower beds to make them a part of extended mix border where there always will be both solar and shadow places. And now imagine for a minute that all the same plants would be landed in the garden in our favorite, tested with time square-cluster way. Instead of a cozy open-air room, we would get muffled landings, with absence of any vital space in a garden, pleasant sensation of isolation from other world would be gone, and about cleaning lawn around each plant it is better not to think at all!
The following type is development of the previous one. It is a garden-apartment these are rooms – system of spaces flowing each other divided by green hedges, pergolas or it is just greens missives. It is a convenient multipurpose variant. The athletic field, a children’s corner, a kitchen garden, a smart zone, the Japanese garden – it’s possible to find a place for everything. Visually isolated fragments which are not getting simultaneously in sight, can be quite possible made in different styles, and each member of a family can choose for himself a vacation spot that he likes. Now imagine the same garden left in uniform space: the Japanese garden adjoins to kitchen garden, the basketball bell frequently falls on it from the athletic field, those who love you, name it softly – “eclecticism” …
For a really big gardens a walking variant will do. It is a garden of beautiful landscapes and specific pictures. It is perceived entirely though it does not exclude the presence of separate closed corners. All elements are strung on the general system of paths and footpaths which lead to dense bushes or open a dazzling kind. Walking in a big garden, all the time we are searching variety. The creation of an artificial relief and the device of various thematic gardens will be very helpful. By all means in the wood zone it is necessary to make a shadow garden, gardens of mosses and ferns, and somewhere there will be golden spot, an untouched clearing with different blossoming plants or a garden of chamomiles. Do you already want there? And now imagine our habitual circular path in nowhere between a lawn and a lawn…
Well, and if to walk in a garden is not one of your habits, it is necessary to concentrate your efforts on creation of an unique magnificent view, usually, from house’s or arbor’s side. In another interpretation – you need a picture-garden. It does not mean that from all other places your garden will look modest. Simply all significant elements – cascades, sources, decorative walls, flower beds – will be turned to the spectator. Such variant will not only provide an instant tremendous effect for any, entered into your garden, but it is also useful as a decision of a fragment, constantly visible from a window. What we will represent this time? Perhaps, the peeled wall of a neighbor’s shed in front of the bedroom window.
And at last, a prospect-garden. A familiar to us six hundred square meters site of standard cutting: 12 on 50 or, even worse than that, 10 on 60. Often we read that an extended site should be visually reduced in all accessible ways. And whether it is necessary? We can build on its axis a really royal suite or occupy the center with a lawn, or make it as a green river with creeks, islands and raised coast overgrown with trees and bushes. Well, and for comparison already familiar to us the pseudo-Alpine hill…
Certainly, all these schemes shouldn’t be applied in the pure state. Nothing prevents a picture-garden to be a walking-garden as well. The Garden-apartment can have an enfilade character. The main thing is to transform the primary chaos in a convenient, comprehended, and very beautiful vital space.
Ten simple advices how to create a flower garden of a simple care
In creation of your own garden many of us think, how difficult it is to take care of the garden, how much time it’s going to take us to support and increase the beauty of created landscape. Certainly, no garden can be left absolutely without any care, but it’s quite really to create a garden that needs the minimum attention and at the same time fascinates with its view.
We will give you a couple of advices about creation of a garden of a simple care. Some of recommendations of our landscape designers will seem to you simple and well-known, others can demand additional expenses and time at the moment of garden creation, but result is going to be not only a nice garden, but also a garden with possibility to have rest in it.
1.First advice. Perhaps, there is no such person who would not know, how much the fertile soil is important for plant’s life. But do we always follow this simple rule at creation of our own garden? And meanwhile the fertile soil is practically a guarantee of beautiful plants. Healthy plants are less subjected to various diseases, they do not attract wreckers (or attract less, than weakened plants), and they need much more rare watering.
At the stage of planning of a garden it is necessary to analyze the soil existing on a site in order to correct its structure according to requirements of landed plants. It’s possible to make such analysis in a laboratory getting the recommendation about improvement of soil structure. I further care of your garden you’ll have to fill the soil with organic substances, for example, compost, for supporting the fertility of soil.
2.Second advice. Place plants in groups according to their requirements to growth conditions. For any landscape composition it is possible to choose plants with similar requirements. Probably you have heard the phrase: « Everyone needs its own place». It is about plants, because competently placed plants will grow beautiful and healthy and will demand from you minimum care. Besides a concentration of plants with identical requirements considerably will reduce time spent for garden works. For example: if to land the hygrophilous plants t in one place of a garden, you won’t have to walk here and there along your garden for a long time with a hose in your hands to provide daily watering to the plants who like water.
3.Third advice. Choose for garden design the plants that need minimal care. Certainly, each of us can have our favourite plants without which we cannot imagine our garden and of which we are ready to care all the time. But the basis of a landscape composition has to be plants which can take care of theirselves. For example, hosts, orpins – they keep decorative effect during all season and do not need any care.
4.Fourth advice. Try to use in garden design raised beds and plants in flowerpots and containers. It is much more easier to take care of a flower bed if it has strict borders. Landings in flowerpots and containers practically will discard you from weedings and struggle against weeds.
5.Fifth advice. It is very important to equip your garden with an automatic watering system. It can seem to many of you that this advice will cause additional expenses. However once spent money will discard you from everyday watering that takes a lot of time, and your plants will be always provided by the moisture that they need. The garden that suffers from lack of water, will never be able to show its full beauty – this is an indispensable condition for cultivation of beautiful and strong plants. So if you do not have time and desire to spend many hours in your garden with a hose in your hands, you have to think thoroughly about this question.
6.Sixth advice. Mulch the soil around your plants. Many gardeners consider that mulch is only an element of landscape decoration. Meanwhile mulch doesn’t only make garden compositions more attractive, but also helps to maintain the stable temperature of soil around the root system of plants, keeps the moisture (so you have to water plants less often), suppress the growth of weed plants and serves as a natural fertilizer. Thus, you will be able to save time, on watering, weeding and application of fertilizers.
7.Seventh advice. At creation of a garden in containers use special devices for controllable application of fertilizers in small doses – such simple devices can be bought in garden stores. The soil in containers is quickly dried up, therefore in order to avoid frequent watering it’s better to add in a ground special water-retaining gel.
8.Eighth advice. Do not save money on garden stock and the tools. The convenient and ergonomic tools will considerably facilitate your work about taking care of your garden and will reduce time necessary for these works.
9.Ninth advice. A garden wheelbarrow – is your true assistant in garden works. With its help you can move and always have near you all the necessary garden tools, plants for change, reaped crop, oblique grass and chosen weeds.
10.Tenth advice. Involve children in garden works. Probably, some kinds of works will seem to them little attractive – for example, weeding or removal of fade inflorescences. But landing of seeds, landing of plants, harvesting (especially!), and also bugs and caterpillars is will attract small fidgets in a garden. Certainly, with attraction of children you won’t have less work in your garden, but a good company is quite capable to create such a feeling!

No doubt, that at least once in life everybody heard such combination as French garden and English garden. It is necessary to tell that this knowledge is simply obligatory for professionals of landscape design. Besides, there are also Italian gardens, with the specific forms and receptions. The traditional Italian garden begins its history during the Renaissance epoch, so it is possible to say with full confidence that it is even older than French and English.
So, it is necessary to note the basic lines with which you’ll be able to make your garden similar to Italian. Some people do not see any necessity in it, however there are also those who would like it very much. The matter is that a person can choose in design different motives – either Japanese or English it depends on tastes. More often, from people who would like to have an Italian garden at home, on a question “What for?” It is possible to receive approximately identical answer: “For the sake of art!”, will be more true likely to speak “… to Italy!”
If to compare an Italian garden to French, it is possible to notice that they are similar in a lay-out regularity, but, unlike French, Italian settles down steps on more difficult relief of hills and foothills. If you don’t have such differences of heights in your garden, perfectly will do artificial terraces and retaining walls, and the retaining walls is better to make from stone combinations. By the way, the stone abundance distinguishes this kind of a garden from all the others. Exactly from stones is desirable to execute a fencing, and also numerous small architectural forms: pavilions in park, grottoes, cascades and fountains, ladders and ramps for connection of the terraces which are at different levels, parapets, balustrades etc.
The Italian style means variations on a theme of regular style. It is a small garden near a country house or a park surrounded with a wall or a cut green hedge. The surface of the Italian garden is divided (just as in regular) into simple geometrical forms by diagonal and direct paths. Often in the composition centre there is a reservoir or a fountain, rounded with flower beds or a paved platform. Beds and reservoirs are solved in formal style (a circle, an oval, or a square).
The patio, raised on some steps adjoining the house, is a characteristic element of the Italian court yard. On this terrace is settled the garden furniture, flowerpots, and sculptures. By the way, sculpture – is an integral attribute of the Italian style. Sculptural registration of fountains, grottoes, flower beds, avenues gives to the Italian gardens strong emotional sounding.
Trees and bushes in the Italian parks are usually cut in the form of a cube or a sphere.
Flower beds are one of the basic things of decorative registration of various objects of gardening. They are created according to the principle of landscape or regular composition. The parts of flowerbed should be very harmonious. In solution of this question, helps the usage of “golden” rule proportion that is 3:5:8.
Creation of flower beds is a true art: because already on the design stage it is necessary to imagine in advance how flowers will look in different times of a year – in growth, in time of flowering and at the moment of withering.
A good flower bed should be planned so, that to please everybody since spring till autumn, from the first runaways to the first snowfalls. Preparation and fertilization of soil, selection of plants, planting and care of them has to be subordinated to the strict plan.
There are some kinds of flower beds:
Mixborder
Mixborders, as a rule, have wrong form. These are multigroup, multirow, mixed landings of ornamental plants (annuals, perennials, bushes and even trees). The assortment of plants steals up according to the principle of continuous flowering during all season.
BED
The flower bed of geometrical form which is looked through from different directions, consists basically from annuals, two years plants and bulbous plants.
RABATTE
Blossoming strips in width from 0,5 to 2м, placed along paths, structures, fences and platforms. Plants are usually placed by rows along the big axe. Can be used one type of flowers and several types. Rabattes can be unilateral and bilateral, faltering and continuous.
BORDER
Is a bordering of a flower bed, a lawn or tree – bushed groups, edges of platforms or paths. Serves for underlining the border of an object. Plants are landed by rows along the axe (usually from 1 to 4 rows). More often in borders are landed plants which height does not exceed 50 sm.
PARTERRE FLOWER BEDS
Strict geometrical forms of flower landings on open sites, are addition to an architectural ensemble of buildings. Executed in the form of flower drawing parterre flower beds carry are named arabesques.
MASSIF
Big landings of grassy plants. Is used only one type of plants – for example, dahlias, begonia.
GROUP
A small number of plants of one kind (irises, hosts). Groups can be near walls or freely growing.
SINGLE LANDINGS Single plants should settled on a big distance from other landings (approximately 2-3 growth of a person). The plant in a single landing has to meet the following requirements: it should have an unusual form of a crone, it should be large enough, have an unusual colouring of leaves, flowers or fruits.

The desire to quickly make a beautiful landscape can to lead to mistakes. Here are the twelve temptations which should be avoided, and their good alternatives.
1. Do not lose a building. Take under consideration the size, the form and style of your house when you are making a court yard lay-out. The landscape design should be in a harmony with building, not to eclipse, not to shade it and not to contrast with it. Unite your house and a court yard by means of repeating stylistic details, smooth transitions and interiors.
2. Do not neglect the design. Make a plan. It is easy to lose your head at first signs of spring and to start digging holes and to land plants, but refrain from it while you will not have an accurate plan.
3. Be not ruined. Count your money and don’t waste them for nothing. It is very easy to spend a lot of money for landscape creation if you are not attentive and purchase the necessary things slowly. For correct definition of approximate cost of usual subjects for a court yard use special magazines.
4. Do not be short-sighted. Try to imagine, how your landscape is going to look after some time passes. Find out the sizes of adult plants before buying and landing them. Because one day after all exactly this small tree can captivate all the court yard, blocking the sun and shading other plants. Magnificent bushes and quickly expanding lianas soon can close a view from the window.
5. Do not be too rectilinear. Use bends and wavy lines in order to increase the visual interest, thus your court yard will look more natural. There is nothing bad In straight lines, but do not land everything in straight rows, do not do each footpath like a straight line.
6. Do not land all behind the house. Think about the general view. Even if you spend the most part of your time on a backyard, the space in front of the house should not be empty. Use a gate, a small fence, an arch or a green hedge in order to create a beautiful entrance.
7. Do not forget about your family. Take under consideration the requirements of each member of your family. Each of them can differently use the court yard. Probably, you will not be able to meet all the numerous desires of each member of your family but if you know what is more important for them, it will be easier for you to make priorities and to use the space in the best way.
8. Do not make hope for the sun. Make the system of illumination the main part of your landscape plan , do not leave it on to do it later. Good illumination raises safety and, and also allows you to play and have a good time in the evenings. At least, steps, paths, access roads and entrance should be well shined.
9. Do not undertake too much. Choose plants, designs and other details which will demand only that attention which you can give them. Otherwise your landscape soon becomes a burden for you. Whether you will take care of these roses? Whether you will clean this pond? Whether you will repaint this white wooden fence every couple of years?
10. Do not pass to the dessert ahead of time. Do not be too lazy to waste time and money on the things that make the basis of your court yard: soil, drainage, the basic structures, carefully picked up plants – before to bring there amusing details: bright annual – plants, exoticperennial – plants, decorative details and statues.
11. Do not make a vinaigrette. For creation the maximum effect land the plants in groups of the same colour or the same type. Struggle with the desire to quickly set a naked court yard, landing plants here and there. It is better to finish first with one site of landings, and then to pass to another.
12. Do not be a copyist. Make your landscape individual. It is not bad to get inspiration from the next court yard, and even to borrow some ideas from it, but struggle with desire in accuracy to repeat the ideal court yard of your neighbours, it should not dictate you how your court yard has to look.

Decoration of a garden reservoir by water and coastal plants has its own specificity. On the one hand, all of them should be decorative and interesting sincespring till late autumn, thus whenever possible not to cause efforts in taking care of them, to look good in composition with surrounding garden plants and to correspond the sizes of the reservoir. On the other hand, the plants which we will place in the reservoir, should make their practical functions to clear water, to absorb the surpluses of the dissolved organic chemistry, to sate the water with oxygen, to serve as food and a shelter for inhabitants of water area.
How to observe the harmony
Water plants should always correspond the style of the reservoir, to correspond the general plan and not contradict the common sense. For example, cactuses and succulents, steppe and semidesertic cereals do not grow in the nature on the coast of the reservoirs, that is why some plants have no sense when you see them near reservoirs. Anyway, classical garden plants including roses, are quite pertinent on the bank of a landscape garden reservoir if they are organically entered in the general composition, do not suppress surrounding “simple” plants, and the most important thing is: they do not have to break the harmonious restraint inherent of the paints of water elements.
Quite often there is a situation when the reservoir is executed irreproachably, it effectively enters in the general outline, but without any harmony. It happens, when we do not reflect what to plant directly in water and how to place those or other plants near to a pond or a stream. Too large curtains on the bank or unreasoned landings near the reservoir are able to reduce its visual size. And on the contrary, medium-sized, with the thin leaves, gracefully bent coastal plants, with skill chosen water-lilies will favorably underline smooth lines of coast, without closing the smooth surface of the water.
Therefore, first, it is necessary to consider the degree of growth of plants. Secondly, to define focus points. If the aqua – garden has only one part of review the largest, crank plants have to be on the opposite side. And if the reservoir has to be looked through well from different directions, it is necessary to distribute plants groups, leaving the sufficient part of the coastal line opened, only filling it up with gravel or tightening it with very low, creeping plants.
